Are you going to go to school for this? That would be funny if you started a career in this just as I got out of it. :)
Yes. J and I hope that we can both attend Wayne State University next year. I want an MLS (I'm thinking of concentrating on youth, but I'm not sure), and she's going for her MSW.
There are lots of different specializations that would be good for you. Math, for one. I'm sure that the world doesn't have enough math librarians. GIS/Maps--you would be terrific at this (look how high you were about the Google Maps thing). Data stuff (I can't see you passionate about the data, but I can see you passionate about solving problems. You are really good at solving problems.) And, as you said, youth. That would be awesome. I'd try to do a double specialization if I were you so that you have more choices when you're looking for work if I could find two areas that I really enjoyed.
These would be my dream classes:
LIS 7730 Administration of Visual Collections (new title and broader content)
LIS 7740 Archives & Libraries in the Digital World (new course)
What I wouldn't give to be an image archivist.
you two GO FOR IT!
To answer your voicemail question, Solomon, I'm doing very little library stuff anymore. I have somehow become more of an applications developer, and I love it!
I need employment which allows me to grow. Thank god/dess I found it.
